  • When we rub our woollen clothes with our hands in the night it produces a spark.
  •  It happens because it acquires a small electric charge.
  • Similarly, lighting is also caused due to the accumulation of positive charges and negative charges.
  • The positive charge on the upper edge of the cloud and the negative charge at the lower edge and ground get accumulated.
  • As the two different charges get accumulated it produces a very large magnitude and lighting occurs.
  • However, it took 2000 years for this realization to occur.
