Question
Download Solution PDFA thief robs precious metals from a store which is 1150 m away from the police. The thief starts running at 6 km/h and the police starts chasing at 11 km/h at the same time. How much distance (in m) will the thief run before being caught?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
The distance between police and thief = 1150 m
The speed of the thief = 6 km/h
The speed of the police = 11 km/h
Formula used:
\(Speed\ =\ {Distance \over Time}\)
Calculation:
Let the distance travelled by thief is X
The relative speed of the police and thief = 11 - 6 = 5 km/h
The distance between police and thief in kilometers = \({1150\over 1000}={1.150\ km}\)
The time taken by police to catch the thief = \({1.150\over5}={0.23\ h}\)
The thief will cover the distance in 0.23 hours = 0.23 × 6 = 1.38 × 1000 = 1380
∴ The required result will be 1380 m.
