Given:

The population of a town = 6000

Calculation:

Let, the number of males = m

The number of females, f = 6000 - m

According to the question,

If the number of males increases by 8% and the number of females increases by 10%,

⇒ 8% of m + 10 % of f = 6500 - 6000 = 500

⇒ \(\dfrac{8}{100}\) × m + \(\dfrac{10}{100}\) × (6000 - m) = 500

⇒ 8m + 60000 - 10m = 500 × 100

⇒ 2m = 60000 - 50000 = 10000

⇒ m = \(\dfrac{10000}{2}\) = 5000

The number of females, f = 6000 - m

⇒ 6000 - 5000 = 1000

∴ The present number of females in the town is 1000.
