Concept:

Percentage:

  • A number or amount is defined as a part of a hundred.

Formula to calculate the rate of increase:

  • Calculate the difference between the two values.
  • Then divide the difference by the previous year.
  • Multiply the value by 100.
  • Percentage increase = (final-initial/initial) × 100

Explanation:

Increase in rate of diesel:

  • (90.72 - 81) = 9.72
  • (9.72/81) = 0.12
  • (0.12 × 100) = 12%

Increase in rate of petrol:

  • (102.12 - 92) = 10.12
  • (10.12/92) = 0.11
  • (0.11 × 100) = 11%

Thus, the increase in the rates of

  • Diesel = 12%
  • Petrol =  11%
