Dual slope ADC
In dual slope type ADC, the integrator generates two different ramps, one with the known analog input voltage VIN and another with a known reference voltage –Vref. Hence it is called a s dual slope A to D converter.
The logic diagram for the same is shown below.
When discharging the counter will be ON.
The input signal is applied to an integrator; at the same time, a counter is started, counting clock pulses.
NOTE:
1. V0 ≤ 0 → counter stops
2. Let V = input voltage of the integrator then the output voltage is
\({V_0} = - \frac{1}{{RC}}\smallint V.dt = - \frac{V}{{RC}}t\)
3. The functions of the control circuit are:
a. For a fixed time T: S→ Vin ⋯ charging
b. After T: S→ VR ⋯ discharging
