Concept:

  • Speed: The distance travelled by the body in unit time.
  • \(Speed = \frac{{Distance}}{{Time}}\)
  • Also, \(Time= \frac{{Distance}}{{Speed}}\)
  • Average Speed: Since the body does not always have the same speed, So we use the concept of average speed. It is the ratio of total distance covered to total time taken by the body.
  • \(Average\;Speed = \frac{{Total\;Distance}}{{Total\;Time}}\)

Conversion of units of speed:

  • From km/hr to m/s = multiply by 5/18
  • From m/s to km/hr = multiply by 18/5

Calculation:

Date

Arrival

22:30

Nagarcoil

14-10-2021

The person was on the train for 2 days.

Total Distance covered = 2592 Km

Time taken = 24 hrs + 24 hrs = 48 hrs

Average Speed = distance/ time = (2592/48) = 54km/h

Since the options are in m/s so,

54 × (5/18) = 15 m/s

Thus, average speed of the train is 15 m/s.

Mistake PointsDo not confuse with units Km/hr and m/s

Conversion of units of speed:

  • From km/hr to m/s = multiply by 5/18
  • From m/s to km/hr = multiply by 18/5
