The hypothalamus plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's homeostasis . It regulates vital functions such as metabolism, endocrine functions, hunger, thirst, visceral functions, sexual activity, emotions, sleep, and wakefulness. The hypothalamus controls the secretions of the anterior pituitary gland by producing releasing hormones and inhibitory hormones. The anterior pituitary hormones include growth hormone, thyroid hormone, luteinizing hormone, and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Moreover, the hypothalamus is the site of synthesis for the posterior pituitary hormones like oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
