• The hypothalamus is a part of the diencephalon, situated beneath the thalamus in the ventral portion of the diencephalon.
• The hypothalamus is made up of a collection of nuclei that can be categorized into three groups: the anterior or preoptic group nuclei, middle or tuberal group nuclei, and posterior or mamillary group.
