What is Mission Parivar Vikas?

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has introduced Mission Parivar Vikas, a new initiative to enhance access to family planning services. This initiative includes various components such as service provision, promotional schemes, ensuring the availability of commodities, capacity building, creating an enabling environment, and implementing rigorous monitoring systems to control the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) effectively. The primary goal of this family planning initiative is to reduce the TFR to 2.1 by the year 2025. Mission Parivar Vikas is being implemented in 145 high-focus districts across seven states, representing 44% of the country's population and having the highest TFRs of three or more.

The scheme employs a comprehensive approach that addresses family planning services' demand and supply aspects. By focusing on maternal and infant health, this initiative aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates significantly.

Mission Parivar Vikas Background

The Union Government has been implementing the Family Planning Programme by the policy framework of population stabilization envisioned in the National Population Policy (NPP-2000) by developing a full-service delivery and demand side mechanism to address unmet family planning needs.

The introduction of the National Health Mission (NHM) in 2005 boosted the program through holistic and comprehensive planning.

The National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 lays out describable, quantitative goals and objectives for population stabilization.

Furthermore, in July 2017, the Union Government launched Mission Parivar Vikas in 145 high-fertility districts of seven priority states to improve contraceptive access through promotional schemes, awareness generation activities, capacity building, and intensive monitoring.

Need for Mission Parivar Vikas

Here are some factors for implementing it:
