The Paris agreement aims to limit the temperature rise in this century by how many degree Celsius above the pre-industrial levels?

Climate change is a reality and the rise in temperature is a wakeup call for everyone to leave behind the prejudices about the scientific realities of climate change. Various initiatives have been launched and international agreements have been signed for the said purpose.

The Paris Agreement:

• The Paris Agreement on Climate Change shows the strong commitment of the international community to address the issue of Climate Change.
• On 12^th December 2015, parties to the UNFCCC reached a landmark agreement to combat climate change and to accelerate the actions and investments needed for a sustainable low carbon future.
• The Paris Agreement, for the first time, brings all nations together to combat climate change with enhanced support to assist developing countries to do so.
• Its central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
• To reach these goals, appropriate financial aid, a new technology framework and an enhanced capacity-building framework will be put in place, thus supporting action by developing countries and the most vulnerable countries.

Hence, from the above-mentioned points, it can be concluded that the Paris agreement aims to limit the temperature rise in this century by 2°C above the pre-industrial levels.
