Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFEfficiency of a Transmission Line:
The efficiency of a transmission line is defined as the ratio of the power delivered to the load to the power sent from the source. Mathematically, it can be expressed as:
Efficiency (η) = (Pload / Psource) × 100%
Where,
- Pload = Power delivered to the load
- Psource = Power sent from the source
Power factor (p.f.) is a measure of how effectively the electrical power is being used. It is the cosine of the phase angle (ϕ) between the voltage and the current in an AC circuit. A higher power factor indicates more efficient use of electrical power.
- When the load power factor is high (close to 1), more of the power sent from the source is effectively used by the load, reducing losses in the transmission line.
- This increases the efficiency of the transmission line. Conversely, a lower power factor means more power is lost in the form of reactive power, which decreases the efficiency of the transmission line.
