The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC CHSL Typing Test as part of the selection process for recruitment through the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam. The Typing Test is part of Tier II of the selection process, which also includes an objective-type examination. - The typing test is conducted for the LDC/JSA posts.
- The medium of Typing Test will be Hindi or English, as opted by the candidate at the time of online application.
- The typing test will only be qualifying in nature.
SSC CHSL Typing Test - Required Skills To Clear SSC CHSL Skill test
The SSC CHSL Typing Test is part of Module-II of Section-III of the Tier 2 examination. At this stage, candidates are assessed for their typing speed and skills to ensure their suitability for the LDC/JSA posts. Skills required to successfully clear the SSC CHSL typing test are:
- Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.)/10500 key depressions per hour
- Applicants choosing Hindi medium for typing should have typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.)/9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
- The speed will be judged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.

SSC CHSL Typing Test - Typing Speed And Allotted Time
To qualify the SSC CHSL Typing Test, candidates will be assessed for typing speed as well as accuracy. The table below summarizes the details of the typing test in Hindi and English.

SSC CHSL Typing Test - Guidelines and Procedure
The SSC CHSL Typing Test will be conducted on a computer. Candidates preparing for the typing test must note the following important points regarding the test.
- The choice of Typing Test Language given by the candidate in the application form shall be treated as final and no change in the medium of Typing Test will be entertained later.
- The speed will be judged on the accuracy of typing on the computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes (15 minutes for PwD candidates).
SSC CHSL Typing Test for Persons With Disabilities
Persons with Disabilities are allowed certain relaxation or may even be exempted from the typing test. Below are important points to note about the SSC CHSL Typing Test for Person With Disabilities
- Candidates eligible for scribe will be given compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore, the duration of the Typing Test for such candidates will be 15 minutes.
- Passage Dictators will be provided to those VH candidates for theTyping test who have opted for scribe during application. The Passage Dictator will read out the passage to the VH candidate within the allotted time period.
- Persons with Disabilities candidates who claim to be permanently unfit to take the Typing Test because of a physical disability may,with the prior approval of the Commission, be exempted from the test, provided such a candidate submits a Certificate in the prescribed format to the Commission from the competent Medical Authority, declaring him/her to be permanently unfit for the Typing Test because of a physical disability.
Tips To Clear SSC CHSL Typing Test
Preparing for the SSC CHSL Typing Test requires regular practice to improve typing speed and accuracy. Given below are some useful tips to help you prepare for the typing test.
- Practice typing daily on the computer at least one month before the exam.
- In order to improve your command of your typing skills, candidates must type paragraphs daily that use a variety of fonts, formats, and sophisticated formatting.
- Your punctuation, spacing, and spelling must be at least 90% accurate.
- Use free online softwares that assess typing speed to monitor your performance.
