The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has rescheduled the Typing Test (Data Entry Speed Test) for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2024. According to the latest update on the official website ssc.gov.in, the Typing Test conducted during the second shift on January 18, 2025, will now be held on January 31, 2025, at 1 PM. This change was made due to technical issues reported during the initial test. Additionally, the tentative date for uploading the Admit Card is January 27, 2025.   • The SSC CGL Tier-2 Module II Exam (DEST) is a computer-based test of abilities or a typing test, depending on the position that candidates have applied for.

SSC CGL Typing Test - Required Skills To Clear DEST

Candidates who passed the SSC CGL exam in Session I need to practise typing a lot. Candidates unable to type at the below-mentioned speeds will not be allowed to move on to the next stage of the typing test for the SSC CGL exam.

  • A passage of approximately 2000 (two thousand) key depressions will be covered by the "Data Entry Speed Test" (DEST) Skill Test.
  • On the same day, candidates must finish a 15-minute Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) in Session II.

SSC CGL Typing Test - Know Requisite Key Depression and Time

SSC CGL typing test will be of qualifying nature; no points will be given for passing the skill test. Only computers supplied by the Staff Selection Commission Recruitment Centers shall be used to conduct or complete it. The following is a list of the minimum SSC CGL typing speed and data entry speed needed to pass the typing test for the post of Tax Assistant/Data Entry Operator.

SSC CGL Typing Test Rules - Guidelines and Procedure

Below are the guidelines for the SSC CGL Typing Test which candidates must keep in mind during preparation and while appearing for the exam:

  • In order to administer DEST, SSC-NIC software will be used.
  • There will be an English test passage.
  • A test passage lasting 5 minutes will come before the actual skill test to give candidates time to become used to the keyboard and system offered by the Commission.
  • The candidates should use the extra time to fix any errors since they are not required to re-enter the text after finishing the paragraph.
  • The Commission will choose the qualifying standards for input of the text for various groups of candidates based on their overall performance in the skill test and the available positions, provided that the standards do not fall below the Commission-established minimums.

  • The candidate must type the paragraph in the "TEXT AREA".
  • The tool will give your the typing speed in the real time. 
  • The candidate must posses a speed of 35 Word Per Minute in English to qualify in the typing test.

SSC CGL Typing Test for Handicapped and Person With Disabilities

  • Orthopedically Handicapped - OH candidates may be exempt from taking the DEST if they provide the Commission with a certificate in the required format (Annexure-XVI) from the appropriate medical authority, i.e., the Civil Surgeon of a Government Health Care Institution, stating that they are physically incapable of taking the typing test on a continuing basis. Except for the position of Tax Assistant in CBDT, for which there is an exemption from taking the DEST, such exemption is not possible for positions where either Computer Proficiency or DEST are required. 
  • PWD - Candidates for PwBD who qualify for scribes per the terms of the Notice of Examination will receive an additional 5 (five) minutes of compensatory time in DEST. Only VH candidates who choose to use scribes during the written exam will be given passage readers at DEST.

Instructions To The Candidates For SSC CGL Typing Test

  • Candidates must report to the Supervisor 30 minutes before the start of the test.
  • At the time of the typewriting test, candidates must provide originals and attested copies of the following certificates/documents; if they do not, they risk not being allowed.
    • A metric certificate or equivalent document proving the date of birth.
    • A certificate of education supporting academic credentials.
    • A SC/ST/ExS/OBC certificate issued by the appropriate authority in the required format.
    • A "No Objection" certificate if you are a Central Government Civilian Employee who is already employed and requesting an age reduction.
    • If the regional office requests it, a current passport-size photo should adhere to the admission certificate.
  • Candidates should enter their information (Roll No., etc.) in the box provided on the screen, confirm their personal information on the following screen, and then click the "CONFIRM" button. He needs to become familiar with the instructions posted on the Commission's website, http://ssc.nic.in.
  • Candidates shouldn't type the running passage again after they've already done so. Candidates should use whatever free time they have to check and make corrections to the typescript.
  • The candidate will be required to write one paragraph of approximately 50–60 words from the provided Data Entry passage in his or her own handwriting on a separate piece of paper as soon as the test is finished, along with their name, roll number, and signature.

SSC CGL typing test practice needs to be done very seriously. 

  • The applicant needs to keep in mind the keyword alphabet pattern. So they can type without having to concentrate on the keyboard.
  • Candidates may utilise the internet to purchase typing software to hone their typing skills.
  • To master their typing skills, candidates must regularly write paragraphs utilising a variety of fonts, styles, and sophisticated formatting.
  • Keep in mind that proper formatting is required. At least 90% of your grammar, spacing and spelling must be accurate.
