SSC CGL 2025 Selection Process

The SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) examination is a multi-tier exam conducted to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts in the Indian government.

1. Tier I – Preliminary Examination

This is an online objective-type test comprising four sections: General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
It is qualifying in nature and used to shortlist candidates for the next tier.
The exam is conducted for a total of 200 marks with a time limit of 60 minutes.
Marks scored here may be used for merit in some posts.

2. Tier II – Main Examination

Tier II is also a computer-based test with multiple papers, depending on the post applied for. The Paper-I (compulsory for all) includes questions from Quantitative Abilities, Reasoning, English, and General Awareness.
Paper II (for JSO) and Paper III (for SI Grade-II) test statistical and economic knowledge respectively. The marks of Tier II are crucial for final selection.

3. Document Verification (DV)

Candidates shortlisted after Tier II must appear for the Document Verification process. This step ensures that candidates fulfill the required educational qualifications, age, and category-related claims. Original documents along with photocopies are verified by officials. The Failure to produce valid documents can lead to disqualification.

4. Final Selection

Final selection is based on the marks obtained in Tier II (and Tier I for some posts).
Candidates are allotted posts based on their merit and post preferences.
The final merit list is published on the official SSC website. Only those who clear all stages successfully are appointed to the posts.
