Those who have qualified the WBCS Prelims Exam must begin preparing for the WBCS mains exam. Candidates need to focus on the exam pattern and syllabus of the subject they chose and the group for which they have applied. The notifications are released by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) and now is the most accurate time to get yourself in the right place and with an accurate approach you need to start your preparation.

The mains exam is quite an important stage of the exam process, as all the marks for this exam are taken in marks calculation. The pattern of the Mains exam is quite different from other PCS too. A total of six papers including Four General Studies, these are common for all whereas the additional Two Optional Papers are as per individual choice. The pattern is divide according to groups.

WBCS Santali Syllabus

Santali is a language subject generally popular in the Jharkhand state in India. Unlike some, it is not a compulsory language; only two papers are composed from this subject. As per the WBCS latest notification, the Commission has officially released the syllabus for Santali subject. Before beginning the preparations, go through the syllabus thoroughly.

Paper I- Santali 
Question Papers are to be set in ‘OLCHIKI’ script and Answers should also be given in ‘OLCHIKI’ script.
Section – A Topic from the History of Santali Language:

a) The chronological track from Austro-Asiatic-Austric to Santali (Family tree with branches

and approximate dates);

b) Historical stages of Santali (Old, Middle and New) and their Linguistic features with Santali grammar (Ranor);

c) Santali languages and its Dialects and their distinguishing characteristic;

d) Elements of Santali Vocabulary;

e) Forms of Santali literary prose (Relevant with personal relations);

Process of Phonetic changes in Santali languages and necessity of ‘OLCHIKI’ script.
Problems of standardization and reform of alphabet and spelling and those of transliteration and inevitability of ‘OLCHIKI’ Script. Ill effects of use of other script in writing Santali excepting

‘OLCHIKI’ script.

Section B
History of Santali literature: a) Periodization of Santali literature: Old and Middle Santali literature;

b) Roots and reasons behind the emergence of modernity in Santali literature;

c) Evolution of Santali oral literatures like ‘Binti’, ‘Bankher’, ‘Thuti’, Serwa Sereng (Traditional

songs) and the ‘Jamsimbinti’- the scripture of SARIDHARAM religion;

d) Narrative and lyric trends in the nineteenth century Santali poetry;

e) Development of Santali prose;

f) Santali dramatic literature (Nineteenth century, Pandit Raghunath Murmu, Sadhuram Chand

Murmu and Post 1946 Santali drama);

Majhi Ramdas Tudu (Reska), Sadhuram Chand Murmu and Pandit Raghunath Murmu (Upto 1950).
Fiction – Major Authors : Majhi Ramdas Tudu (Reska), Sadhuram Chand Murmu, Pandit Raghunath Murmu, Paul Jujar Saren, Narayan Saren (Toresutam), Sarada Prasad Kisku (Toko Malang), Nayke Mongal Chandra Saren, Domon Sahu Samir.
Paper II Santali

WBCS Santali Exam Pattern

The WBCS Preliminary exam is merely a qualifying paper and marks are not taken into account. The paper is objective in nature.

For the main exam, all the papers are important, conducted in subjective mode and taken in the merit calculation. The two out of six papers are optional, individual choice of the candidate. Check out the exam pattern:-

  • Four papers are MCQ Based papers..
  • There will be two optional papers- Santali. 
    • Paper 1- Santali
    • Paper 2- Santali
  • Both the papers will be of 200 marks each with a duration of 3 hours each. Both will be Descriptive in nature.
