London Southend Airport Plane Crash: A small aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff at London Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon, prompting an emergency response. Ambulances, fire services, and emergency teams arrived at the site immediately after the tragic accident was reported. According to reports, the 12-metre plane plunged to the ground at the airport on England’s south-east coast.
Amid this, London Southend Airport issued a public statement on X on Monday, informing the closure of the airport until further notice. “All flights to and from the Airport have been cancelled while Police, emergency services and air accident investigators are attending the incident. We ask that any passengers due to travel tomorrow via London Southend Airport contact their airline for information and advice. Our thoughts are with those affected by today’s events and all passengers impacted by this disruption. We will restart flight operations as soon as possible and will continue to update the public on developments,” the airport authorities said.
The Independent reported that an eyewitness said the pilots onboard the ill-fated aircraft had waved at children moments before it turned into a fireball. John Johnson, who was at the airport with his family, recounted the events leading up to the crash. He said the flight plunged into the ground, followed by a massive blaze. He also mentioned that his children and others had waved at the pilots, who waved back as the aircraft began to take off.
Following the incident, suspension of flight services was announced until further notice, and about five international flights were cancelled. The number of people onboard and the type of aircraft are not yet confirmed. Meanwhile, the Police and aviation officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Photos and videos circulating on social media platforms show a large fireball and huge plumes of black smoke rising from the crash site.
