Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Alinagar, Mishrilal Yadav, has been disqualified from the state Assembly on Friday. The decision comes after his legislative seat was at risk due to his conviction in a 2019 assault case. In this regard, Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has issued an official notification stating that Yadav’s disqualification will be effective from May 27, 2025, the day he was “convicted and sentenced”.
Who Is Mishrilal Yadav?
Mishrilal Yadav is a Bihar-based politician and now a disqualified member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He won the Alinagar assembly seat on the VIP ticket in the 2020 Bihar elections. According to reports, Yadav is among the three members who defected to the National Democratic Alliance on March 23, 2022. Before him, the MLAs whose membership got cancelled were CPIML’s Manoj Manzil, RJD’s Anil Sahni, and Anant Singh. On 29 January 2019, he was accused of assaulting a person named Umesh Mishra along with his supporters in Darbhanga. Yadav was sentenced to two years by the MP MLA court.
BJP Remains The Largest Party
Although the BJP has lost one seat due to the disqualification of Mishri Lal Yadav’s membership, it remains the largest party in the Bihar Assembly with 79 MLAs, followed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) with 77 MLAs.
‘No By-Election’
It is said that even after Yadav’s membership disqualification, no by-election will be held in Alinagar because the term of the 17th Legislative Assembly in the state is ending on 22 November.
