The Meghalaya honeymoon murder case has taken a new twist, with more and more details coming out every day. Now, a new name has surfaced, Jitendra Raghuvanshi. This has taken the case in a new direction.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three other men, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi are now all accused in the case. All five have been taken to Meghalaya and were put in police custody for eight days on Wednesday.
Who is Jitendra Raghuvanshi?
Jitendra Raghuvanshi is the person whose account Sonam Raghuvanshi allegedly used on May 23 to send the first payments to the hitmen hired to kill Raja Raghuvanshi.
When asked who Jitendra Raghuvanshi is, Sonam’s brother Govind told the media on Wednesday that he is their cousin. Govind also said that Sonam’s UPI account was opened in Jitendra’s name. But he did not say why the account was not opened in Sonam’s name, according to a report by Hindustan Times
After Jitendra’s name came up in the investigation, it raised suspicions that Sonam may have used the hawala route (an illegal money transfer method) to send the payments. This also brought her family’s business under investigation for possible hawala connections.
However, Govind denied these claims. He said that Jitendra was a junior employee at their family business and that his account had their company’s money, which was used for regular business transactions, according to The New Indian Express.
Govind said, “We don’t have to do anything with hawala. False stories are being cooked up. The man Jitendra Raghuvanshi, whose name is cropping up, is my maternal cousin as well as a junior employee in our family business, who looks after loading and unloading in the godown. The account in his name actually has that money of ours which is spent on taking care of the day-to-day expenditure of the business.”
He explained that their family has nothing to do with hawala, and Jitendra is just a cousin who works for their business. The money in Jitendra’s account is used for regular business expenses.
