Bihar Couple Sells Newborn For 2.50 Lakhs, Arrested In Coimbatore For Child Trafficking; Disturbing Details

A couple from Bihar was arrested for allegedly trafficking an infant in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, three people, including a farmer, were detained in relation to the matter.

A shocking incident has come to light from Coimbatore, where a couple hailing from Bihar who now live in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu have been arrested for selling an infant to a farmer for 2.50 Lakhs.

After the complaint was filed, Child rights department immediately started the investigation on the matter. The accused are identified as Mahesh Kumar and Anjali. who live in Appanayakanpatti in Sulur and run a restaurant.

Karumathampatti Police received a formal complaint from officials, who then arrested the couple on June 3. During the investigation, they found out that the baby had been sold to a farmer named Vijayan.

Mahesh and Anjali sold 15-day-old Child to a Vijayan for just 2.50 lakhs. Prior to this they also sold a baby girl to a couple in Andhra Pradesh.

When the investigation began Anjali’s mother and sister were also interrogated and it was found that the child was brought to Coimbatore from Bihar for the business purpose only. And further Anjali’s family was also arrested.

As per the officer who is investigating the matter, two cases have been filed against the accused and five others.

“We will inform if there is any further development in the case, the boy is 15-day old and the girl is one month old.” Said the official.
