After the box office success of Luka Chuppi in 2019, the makers are reportedly developing a sequel. The romantic comedy sequel will reportedly feature Varun Dhawan and Sharvari Wagh and will be helmed by original director Laxman Utekar.
According to reports by Mid-Day, Luka Chuppi 2 will take a unique turn from the original by introducing a supernatural twist. Both Varun and Sharvari are said to have given their verbal nods to the project, and are expected to sign formally once the script is finalized. The film is scheduled to go on floors in the first half of 2026.
The original film, stared Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, and the story revolves around a smallntown couple pretending to marry in order to cohabitate who then lands in an endless awkward situations to hide the truth from their orthodox families. It became a hit at the box office grossing Rs 128.60 crore worldwide.
On the work front, Varun Dhawan is collaborating with Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur for a romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Directed by David Dhawan, it also stars Maniesh Paul, Rajeev Khandelwal, Mouni Roy, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill, and Rohit Saraf. It is slated for a theatrical release in October 2025.
Varun is also gearing up for Border 2, the highly anticipated sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 war drama Border. He will take on the role of Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, a Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film also stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Meanwhile, Sharvari is currently busy shooting for Alpha, alongside Alia Bhatt.
